About Ascend

A conservation-focused green cemetery in Carroll County, Ohio.

Our mission

Ascend exists to protect and restore native habitat, and to offer families a simple, affordable and meaningful way to return to the earth. Burials help fund the restoration. The land, in turn, becomes a living memorial.

The endowment care trust that funds the long-term care of the cemetery is overseen by three local Carroll County residents: Austin Kirk, Jon Ward and Amy Miller.

Our team

Damira Campbell

Founder

Damira first learned about green burial in a sustainability class in her MBA program at Cleveland State University. The idea stayed with her: a burial could cost families less, leave no chemicals behind, and help pay to bring land back to life.

When she found the rolling hills and quiet of Dellroy, she knew it was the right place for a final resting place. Ascend is that idea, put into practice on 20.5 acres in Carroll County.

Austin Kirk

Endowment Care Trust Fund Trustee

Austin has lived in Carroll County for more than 30 years and now lives south of Malvern. He owns an environmental consulting and inspection business and holds a bachelor's degree in Environment and Natural Resources from The Ohio State University.

He has worked on environmental projects across the county and supports burial practices that are better for the land.

Jon Ward

Endowment Care Trust Fund Trustee

Jon was raised in Dellroy and has lived in the area most of his life. He served eight years as a Rose Township trustee and has owned and managed a small real estate investment firm since 2012.

A lifelong outdoorsman, Jon cares about keeping wild spaces wild.

Amy Miller

Endowment Care Trust Fund Trustee

Amy Miller, PhD, is Chief Operating Officer of Route 9 Cooperative and runs her family's fruit and nut farm, carrying on the chestnut-growing work begun by her grandfather and her father, Greg Miller of Empire Chestnut.

A plant pathologist with expertise in environmental science and forest biology, Amy focuses her work on soil health, reforestation and agroforestry.
