Good to know
- Planning ahead? You pay $2,800 when you purchase your plot. Opening and closing, currently $1,500 and subject to change, is paid later at the time of burial.
- At the time of need? Both the plot and opening and closing are paid before the burial.
- All cemetery charges must be paid in full before the burial, unless we agree otherwise in writing.
- No hidden fees. If a special request has a cost, we will tell you before you decide.

The endowment care trust
Ohio law requires cemeteries to set aside money for the long-term care of the grounds. At Ascend, at least 10 percent of the price of every burial right goes into an endowment care trust held at a bank. The trust can only be used for caring for the cemetery. Three local Endowment Care Trust Fund Trustees oversee it.
How this compares
The National Funeral Directors Association reports that the national median cost of a funeral with viewing and burial was $8,300 in 2023. That figure covers funeral home services only. It does not include cemetery costs such as a plot, opening and closing the grave, a vault or a marker.
At Ascend, the full cemetery cost is $4,300, and no vault is needed. A green burial often costs less at the funeral home too, because embalming is usually not needed and the casket or shroud is simple. Every family is different, so ask your funeral home for its itemized price list.
